The beauty and value of a diamond are determined by attributes commonly referred to as The 4 C's. Carat, color, cut and clarity.

Carat
A carat is simply the weight of a diamond. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams or 100 "points"... (50 points, for example equals 1/2 carat) But carat weight and value are not as interrelated as one would imagine.  Larger stones are rare so they should be more expensive, but the effects of the other 3 C's can increase the value of even smaller stones making size alone less of an indicator of price.

Color
Color is established on a scale that grades diamonds from as near colorless as possible to those that look tinted to the naked eye and are of lesser value. Diamonds  beyond this scale are colored diamonds known as "fancies" - which are rare in nature and range in color from yellows to pinks, blues, greens, oranges, even red.  Some Oved Clarity Enhanced Diamonds are also color enhanced to provide consumers affordable access to this very expensive diamond variety.

Cut
Of the attributes that contribute to the value of a diamond, cut is the only one dictated by human hands. Though there are numerous variations of cuts based on style and trends, cut refers to the angles and proportions created by skilled diamond cutters. A well cut diamond has fire and life.  And the valuation of cut is based not on the determination of shape of the diamond (round, marquise, emerald, princess, oval and pear) but on the way a cut helps a diamond reflect light from one facet to another across the top of the stone. The better a diamond is cut the more brilliance it has.

Clarity
Natural blemishes or flaws occur in diamonds as they form in the earth. They vary in size and location. But each disrupts the flow of light into and out of the diamond undermining its clarity and brilliance. Clarity measures these imperfections on a scale from those so minor they are difficult to detect, even through a jeweler's loupe, to those visible to the naked eye.  It is this attribute that Oved corrects, allowing you to invest more in the other 3 C's, so you can buy a beautifully cut, 2 carat Oved diamond for the price of a one carat stone.
